What I Want My Legacy to Be — And What That Means for You

This Isn’t Just About Lawns

People know me as the sprinkler guy, the lawn guy, the mosquito guy. And sure, I’ve been doing this work a long time. But I’ve come to realize my legacy isn’t about the thousands of sprinkler heads I’ve installed or the green lawns we’ve brought back to life across Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia.

My legacy is about something else: trust.

I want people to say, “When Bob Carr said he’d be there, he was there. When he gave you a price, that’s what it was. And when he answered a question, he told the truth—even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear.”

And that legacy? It’s not just about me. It means something for you, too.

Why This Matters to Homeowners

When you invite someone into your yard—into your home environment—you’re trusting them. And that means something.

Whether we’re installing a sprinkler system in Bethesda, doing mosquito control in Bowie, or aerating a lawn in Fairfax, we’re on your turf. Literally. And my team knows that. That’s why we show up clean, prepared, and respectful.

Because my name is on the truck. And your trust is on the line.

I always say, “The grass isn’t just grass. It’s someone’s first impression when they pull into the driveway. It’s where kids play and dogs run. It’s part of someone’s home. And that deserves respect.”

Case Study: One Call in 1995

There’s a customer in Annapolis who first called us in 1995. We installed a basic sprinkler system for their front yard.

They called us again in 2003 to expand the system. Then again in 2012 for mosquito control. Then again in 2018 when their daughter bought a home nearby.

Four jobs, three properties, 28 years. Why? Because they trusted us.

They didn’t have to go back to the internet. They didn’t shop around. They called Bob Carr because they knew what they were getting.

That’s the kind of story I want to leave behind.

The Big Questions I Ask Myself

As I get older, I think a lot more about the kind of business I’m leaving behind for my team—and the kind of experience we’re leaving behind for our customers.

  • Did we answer every question with clarity?
  • Did we stand behind every job?
  • Did we follow up, even when it wasn’t convenient?
  • Did we make it easier for someone to trust a contractor again?

Because let’s face it: contractors don’t have the best reputation. And every time we knock on a door, we have the chance to rewrite that.

What That Means for You (Right Now)

When you hire TLC or get advice from AskBobCarr.com, here’s what you’re getting:

  • Straight answers. No fluff.
  • Clear prices. No games.
  • Real service from real people. Not a tech who disappears after the install.
  • Local expertise. We know the soil in Gaithersburg, the slopes in Potomac, the tree cover in Silver Spring.

We don’t subcontract work to the lowest bidder. We don’t quote one thing and invoice another. We don’t hide behind fine print.

That’s not just good business. That’s personal.

FAQs I Get All the Time

Q: Bob, what if something goes wrong after install?
A: We come back. We fix it. We make it right. That’s our promise. And it’s written on your invoice, too.

Q: Is this just another franchise or out-of-town chain?
A: No. This is a local business, built in Maryland, with local crews who live here and take pride in the work.

Q: Do you actually answer these questions yourself?
A: Yes, I do. Every post at AskBobCarr.com comes from me—because I want you to get straight talk, not marketing copy.

Q: Do you still go out in the field?
A: Not every day like I used to, but yes, I still walk jobs, talk with customers, and train new team members.

What I Tell My Team

I tell my team all the time: “Do the job like your name is on the line. Because mine is.”

That means we double-check the system before we leave. That means we clean up like it was our yard. That means we treat every question from a homeowner like it matters—because it does.

And I’m proud to say that the people who work at TLC are people I trust to carry that forward.

We have techs who’ve been with us 10, 15, even 20 years. They’re not just employees—they’re part of the legacy.

More Local Stories That Make Me Proud

A homeowner in Chevy Chase called us after two other companies gave them conflicting advice. One said their irrigation system had to be replaced. The other said it was fine.

We came out, inspected everything, and told them the truth: it just needed a few repairs and a controller upgrade.

We saved them $2,000.

They told us, “You’re the first one who actually explained what was going on.”

That’s the kind of thing that builds a reputation. That’s what I want people to say about us long after I’m gone.

What I Hope You Remember

I don’t expect everyone to remember every tip I’ve shared about watering schedules or aeration timing.

But I do hope you remember this:

You can trust Bob Carr to tell it like it is. And you can trust TLC to do the job right.

If that’s the legacy I leave behind, I’m proud of it.

Because at the end of the day, this business isn’t just about lawns. It’s about people. It’s about families. It’s about trust.

And if we get the chance to earn your trust, we won’t take it lightly.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for believing in local businesses. And thanks for letting me and my team do what we love to do.
