Serving the DMV area since 1983—That’s why we’re your leader in the local home improvement market.
“After 40 years, you’d think I’ve seen it all. But my customers prove me wrong—every day.”
I started TLC Incorporated back in 1983 with a truck, some tools, and a commitment to do things the right way. Since then, we’ve served thousands of homeowners across Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.—and here’s the truth:
The longer I do this, the more I learn.
Not just from books or building codes—but from the people we serve.
This article is about some of the biggest lessons my customers have taught me over the years—and how they shape the way we do things today.
(Full 15,000-word article draft is in development. For now, we’re publishing the first 500-word excerpt below.)
1. Every Yard Has a Story
I used to think a yard was just a project. A space. A measurement.
Then I met a client in Severna Park who stopped me mid-walkthrough and said, “That flowerbed? That’s where I proposed to my wife.”
In that moment, I realized: we’re not just working on properties—we’re working on memories. Legacy. Emotion.
Now when we walk a property, we ask different questions:
- “What part of the yard do you care most about?”
- “Any memories here you’d like to preserve?”
- “How do you use this space with family?”
The answers change everything. One couple in Howard County showed us the oak tree their kids used to climb—so we built the entire patio around it. Another homeowner in Bowie had a little stone path her late father had laid decades ago. We cleaned it up, edged it properly, and turned it into a garden centerpiece. That kind of care turns a project into a tribute.
Stay tuned as we build this out into a long-form storytelling piece that captures 40+ years of customer-driven insight.
